SPACE IS NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
Three major events have opened the doors to non-government commercial space;
- The market has been quantified. In October 2002 Futron published the Space Tourism Market Study estimating that suborbital tourism market to be worth over $700 million a year with over 15,000 passengers annually.
- It has been done. The design, construction and flight of the Tier One System by Scaled Composites showed that a private company can operate a space program for under $25 million.
- Legislation has been passed. Congress is sending a clear message with the passage of the Commercial Space Launch Amendments Act of 2004 to promote the development of the emerging commercial human space flight industry.
Now that Congress has made the regulatory environment clear, Scaled Composites' has shown it is possible and Futron has defined the market, Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos and others like them are investing into the new commercial space industry so they can enjoy the tremendous growth that is sure to come.
